We promised women-grown coffee and here it is! This 'Las Dueñas' lot grown by Manos de Mujer "Hands of Women" hails from one of Guatemala's most coveted growing regions, Hueheutenango, and is grown at high elevation in an isolated and rugged corner of the country. There you will find 182 female members of the ASOBAGRI collective implementing strategies to streamline costs and productivity, while delivering an intensely flavorful cup. These women have cultivated strategies which include using coffee pulp to make organic fertilizers to reduce the transportation costs associated with purchasing fertilizer from afar, and at the same time, creating an abundant source of plant nutrition that ensures better yields and quality. Income diversification investments in chicken farms, avocado trees and a local cafeteria have also strengthened the options for women members.
