The caffeine content is reduced from over 3% to below 0.4% (based on analysis), while important functional compounds such as theanine and catechins are retained at nearly 100%. When prepared with the basic recipe of 2g of matcha, one cup of decaf matcha contains about 4–8mg of caffeine. According to the FDA, an 8-ounce (about 240ml) cup of decaf coffee contains 2–15mg of caffeine. Therefore, in terms of caffeine content, this decaf matcha is comparable to decaf coffee.
