This pattern is the second of three patterns in the Picky Femme x Pom Pom collab. We love Erin of @pickyfemme’s incredible style, way with colour, and eye for pattern, and are absolutely over the moon to be collaborating on a collection of knitting designs. In developing this pattern, Erin wanted to create something graphic and bold — but with the flexibility to play with colour and pattern without having to memorise complex colour repeats. A simple 4-stitch, 4-round repeat can be altered in infinite ways to set different moods for your garment. You can change the contrast or main body colours to create gingham or arrange stripes of checkers — the possibilities are endless! This project is designed for worsted-weight scraps. While the sample uses one brand, it works equally well with any worsted yarns of similar weight and yardage. For the sample garments, a single base colour is used consistently throughout, allowing the contrasting checker colours to be the focus. The yardage listed is for the total amount you need to knit the sweater. The pattern includes guidance on calculating how much of that total yardage will be your main colour and how much will be contrast colour(s) depending on the design and amount of colours you choose. For example some variations will use 50% of the total yardage in MC and the remaining 50% split between contrast colours, for some the MC usage will be more like 30%.
