Honda Civic Gen 10 Type R Transmission Cooler
The Wunderladen Racing Type R transmission cooler is a great solution for keeping your transmission happy and in one piece while also reducing the thermal load on your engine cooling system! This is the same transmission cooler setup we include in our tri cooler combo. The factory cooling system has a heater exchanger block bolted to the front of the transmission that is meant to get the transmission oil up to temp faster on the street and also remove heat from it on track. The problem with this system is that it ends up putting extra heat into the already overtaxed cooling system and contributes to why these cars overheat on track so easily. It also means the transmission can't get any cooler than the cooling system, which is very hot. This degrades the transmission fluid much faster and also leads to fatigue failures in gears. Our transmission cooler kit caps off the factory coolant lines with high temp caps and eliminates the factory heat exchanger block by plumbing the transmission fluid to a short 10 row cooler. This cooler is sized adequately to keep the transmission fluid much cooler than factory but not so cool that it can't get up to temp. Since the Type R transmission has an internal oil pump, no extra pump is needed to, which makes this whole system a very easy and effective install! The 10 row transmission cooler is mounted behind the bumper on the driver side (LHD) behind the open vents in the bumper so it too sees plenty of airflow. The brackets for the transmission cooler are made of stainless steel for great rigidity and superior corrosion resistance.
