The Blacknificent 7 is a dynamic network of trailblazing Black composers committed to promoting and serving the next generation of underrepresented composers. The collective consists of Emmy Award-winning composer and vocalist Jasmine Barnes, composer and bass-baritone Damien Geter, Grammy Award-winning CSO Mead Composer-in-Residence Jessie Montgomery, composer and educator Shawn Okpebholo, Emmy-nominated composer Dave Ragland, Grammy-nominated Composer-in-Residence of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Carlos Simon and Emmy Award-winning composer Joel Thompson. Their works have been performed by prestigious ensembles around the world, and they continue to be in high demand for new commissions and performances.
