Natus - 2023 - Vinho Tinto
Crafted from Trincadeira and Castelão grapes harvested in the schist soils of Vidigueira. Situated at the southern foothills of the Serra do Mendro, the vineyard benefits from a warm climate balanced by cool night temperatures. The grapes are picked by hand and undergo traditional foot treading for two days, ensuring a gentle extraction that respects the raw material. Once spontaneous fermentation begins, the must is transferred to uncoated 19th-century clay pots, known as Talhas, to complete the process. The wine is then aged for 12 months in a combination of centenary 600-liter Portuguese oak and chestnut barrels, along with 300-liter used French oak barrels. To maintain the wine's natural texture and integrity, it is bottled without filtering or stabilization. In the glass, this wine exhibits an open ruby color with clear aromas of red and black fruits, led by notes of black cherry, forest floor, and a subtle balsamic finish. On the palate, it is juicy and balanced, with fine, well-integrated tannins and crisp acidity that lend a delicate, fresh texture. With a production of 5,415 standard bottles and 130 magnums, this 13% ABV wine is ready for enjoyment at 16 degrees Celsius. It is a versatile partner for grilled meats, tomato-based pasta or pizza, or simply for sharing with friends.
