• Finished garment • Tudor Tailor exclusive Woman's Tudor Almain (German) style sleeves designed to be tied to a kirtle or inside a gown. suitable for a middling, gentle or elite woman from 1510s to 1570s. The Almain, or German fashion was characterised by puffed strips held in place by a series of narrow bands, over a contrasting lining. This treatment wasapplied to the sleeves of women’s garments and, according to their effigies on monuments and other representations, it was a style worn by gentlewomen and the middling sort. Made of silk satin, lined with linen and with puffs (pullings through) of red silk taffeta. The panes (strips) of silk are arranged into three rows of puffs, separated by narrow bands of silk satin with pinked decoration. A pair of striped linen tapes is sewn to each sleeve for tying into a gown. All finishing is by hand and there is no visible machine stitching on the inside or outside. As new. No other garments are included.
