It's the largest specialty estate in the country, sitting at 600 metres on red volcanic soil and sandy loam, at 17 degrees south. A true dry season and slow cherry ripening give it a character that's unmistakably Australian. The name belongs to the family's patriarch. Jack Murat arrived in Australia in 1929 at sixteen, cut wood for a living, then grew tobacco. Although Jack never planted a coffee tree, his family pivoted away from tobacco in favour of coffee.
