Jeans Sewing Series | Intermediate

This class series is for intermediate sewists looking to sew a pair of jeans. This class will empower you to feel more comfortable sewing with heavier fabric, installing zippers, and using your machine to make clothes that you love . This course is designed for sewists with prior experience, who are ready for a challenge! Participants should have a basic understanding of garment construction before enrolling. Over the course of five weeks, you will learn how to make the: Helene Jeans (sizes 0-22 and 14-32) from Anna Allen Clothing (women's pattern) The Helene jeans are a traditional high waist non-stretch jeans pattern. This pattern is based on heritage denim jeans from the 1930’s-1960’s. It has traditional 5 pocket styling including two front scoop pockets, a coin pocket, and patch pockets on the back. Choose from 4 leg styles in this pattern Straight, Slim Straight, Wide, Shorts. This pattern is drafted for non-stretch denim. This pattern has two size ranges, please use the size chart linked here to select a size. You will choose a size range when checking out to help us with printing. OR Quadra Jeans from Thread Theory (men's pattern) If your hip size falls outside of the size range, please reach out via email (rissewn@gmail.com). We will provide a pattern will better meet your needs. This is a FIVE WEEK course held on Thursdays in July. (July 2nd, 9th, 16th, & 25th) from 5:30pm-7:30pm. You should already know how to: Thread your sewing machine. Change your stitch settings. Wind a bobbin. Sew a garment using a sewing pattern. Confidently use a sewing machine. You will learn how to: Sew a zip fly. Attach a waistband. Add belt loops. Sew a buttonhole. Sew with heavier fabric. Materials Required: 1.5-3 yds 60" wide heavy weight (10-15oz) non-stretch denim -refer to pattern (linked above) for the size chart and fabric requirement .5 yards of fabric for pocket bag (quilting cotton, or pocketing fabric) Coordinating thread Top Stitching thread 6-10 inch metal jeans zipper We will provide: rivets jeans button interfacing Fabric and notions (unless stated) are not included in the cost of the workshop. If you need help picking out fabrics, you can visit Pirillo Textiles ahead of the class and get fabric recommendations from Adam. If ordering online, it is recommended to order fabric two weeks before class. Please pre-wash your fabric before the workshop. Your paper pattern needs to be picked up and cut before the first class. Location: Class will be located at Pirillo Textiles. (3800 Merle Hay Rd Suite 912, Des Moines, IA- inside of Merle Hay Mall. Use entrance near Flix Brewhouse) Cancellations must occur at least TWO FULL WEEKS before the class for a refund to be given.
