Simple Syrup is a classical oral vehicle for various types of water-soluble medications, especially those medications with a bitter or unpleasantly sour taste. The syrup has the capacity to hold many different types of water-soluble active ingredients and their salt forms, making it an extremely versatile oral vehicle. Taste masking is the main reason that this type of oral vehicle has been used so ubiquitously, allowing accurate oral dosing for the infirmed, the very young and the very old alike. The syrup contains no added flavour - merely providing an aqueous sucrose vehicle - allowing the pharmacist the versatility to flavour preparations as needed.
