Vintage Japanese Tall Shigaraki vase with Comb pattern

A tall mid century Shigaraki ware vase with incised details, in speckled brown ash finish. The incised pattern is incised using a kind of wooden comb, called Kushime. Shigaraki ware is traditionally fired in wood fired kilns. This type of brown finish is achieved without glaze and allowing the ash from the wood fired kiln to provide a random varierty of finishes as it falls on the surface of the hot clay. Featuring original sticker indicating the vase was made in Shigaraki. Measures 28.5cm tall x 11.5 cm wide. Weighs approximately 2kgs
