A simple way to make your own climbing plant support, exactly how you want it. This system uses individual components so you can build a trellis to fit your space rather than trying to make something off-the-shelf work. Go for straight vertical lines, a grid, or something more organic across a wall or fence. Made from stainless steel so it will last outdoors without fuss, and once it is up it keeps things looking clean and minimal while your plants do their thing. Works well on brick, wood or concrete and can be set up with basic tools. You can keep it subtle or make more of a feature depending on how you lay it out. Good for climbers like clematis, roses, ivy, or even beans and peas if you are growing food. Why we like it: You can design it to fit your space Strong and long-lasting Keeps things neat without being bulky Great for making use of vertical space Lets the plants be the focus A nice option if you want something simple, practical and a bit more considered than a standard trellis. 2mm Stainless Steel Braided Wire Rope (A4/Marine grade) (shown pictured looped with a ferrule but supplied as wire only) 5mm Stainless Steel Barrel Strainer / Turnbuckle (A4/Marine grade) 6mm Stainless Steel Flanged Eye Screw (A2 Stainless) Aluminium Ferrule Crimp Will also work well creating structure for our Jute Pea and Bean Netting. For each run of wire you will need: 2 × eye screws, 1 × barrel strainer, 2 × ferrules, and a length of wire. Order the wire to roughly the distance between fixing points, plus about 10% extra to be safe. Screw the eye screws into your wall or timber (use suitable wall plugs if needed, not included). Wind them in as far as possible to the flange. You can use a screwdriver through the eye to help turn them. Slide a ferrule onto the wire. Thread the wire through one eye screw, then back through the ferrule to form a loop. Crimp tightly with pliers. Open up the barrel strainer by unscrewing both ends most of the way. One end has a reverse thread, so it will unscrew clockwise. Hook it onto the other eye screw. Run the wire across to the strainer and cut it about 50–75 mm longer than needed (sharp side cutters help here). Slide on the second ferrule, thread the wire through the strainer eye, loop it back and pass it through the ferrule. Pull tight by hand and crimp firmly. Turn the centre of the barrel strainer to tighten the wire. Keep going until you reach the desired tension. Do not overtighten.
