Makakiloiʻa ʻAhuna Anorak Jacket- O.D Green
This ʻAhuna Anorak features our Makakiloiʻa print on O.D Green material with Pear and Shiitake ink. Makakiloiʻa There at Kaʻuiki is Maka-kilo-iʻa, the observation point marked by ʻAiʻai, the legendary hero who marked fishing grounds on most of the islands. Facing Hawaiʻi Island, a stone was placed here as a lookout for akule fish. This observation point in Hāna, Maui, is still in use today. The traditional hale at Makakiloiʻa is constructed of bamboo and is thatched with loulu. Similar hale with thatchings of loulu are at Piʻilanihale Heiau and at Kōkī Beach. These hale continue to stand as a beacon to the community and a place of gathering ʻohana. Maka-kilo-iʻa literally means “fish observation point.” Loulu leaves thatch the structure for shelther. The ʻohe kāpala depicts the manner the beams are bound. This art honors the traditional hale and the kilo iʻa of the Hāna community. ʻAhuna Anorak Jacket The anorak originated north of us in the arctic lands. Because of the extreme cold, a cover-up was made from animal skins, designed to protect their bodies. More than a century has gone by and this jacket style lives on. Our ʻAhuna anorak is made for tropical climes with 100% ripstop cotton. Comfortable in chilly Waimea Canyon and enjoyable in cool Hōlualoa, the hoodie provides security! The elastic cuffs and ties to cinch the waist add to your stylings. ʻAhuna is the term for a ti-leaf rain cape, coat or garment. We give our anorak this name as it reminds us of the fisherwoman who accompanied Aunty Edith as she fished the shorelines fronting Keaukaha homesteads. Model is 6ʻ4 200lbs and wearing a size XL ʻAhuna Anorak Jacket
