Big in all regards, Tulameen red raspberries produce tall canes, huge berries and enormous harvests. If you have the space, this is the top red raspberry in our opinion. Bred in BC in the 1980's, it's perfectly adapted for our local climate. It has a strong growth habit, with thick, sturdy canes that will need trellising. The canes on our bushes easily grow over 6 feet, often closer to 9 feet. At that height, they make for a great summer privacy screen if planted in the right location. Tulameen raspberries fruit on canes that grew the previous year (floricanes). Each fall, prune out the canes that just fruited and leave the new canes to fruit the following summer. Common names: Tulameen raspberry, Tulameen red raspberry Edible: Berries Harvest timing: July Scientific name: Rubus idaeus 'Tulameen' Light requirements: Full sun Full-grown size: 4-9' tall, 2-4' wide Hardiness: Zone 4-8 Pollination: Self-fertile Wildlife: Flowers attract bees, fruit attracts birds Origin: Bred at the Agriculture Canada Research Station in BC, Canada. Noteworthy: Relatively small thorns for a bramble - easy to handle and prune.
