A Hagi tea bowl by ceramic artist Tori Yoshino, based in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. This work emerged from the artist’s reconsideration of the roots of old Hagi ware, and from his insight to use Daidō kaolin clay, a material found in Hagi itself. The softly elegant white surface, faintly tinged with a biwa-like tone, is enriched by a gentle landscape of white glaze, while a fine network of nanako crackle spreads beautifully across the surface. Its supple form carries something of the presence of Korean tea bowls seen in old Hagi, while the chirimen texture appearing inside the split foot suggests inspiration drawn from old Karatsu. It is an exceptional work born from the accumulated thought and experimentation of an artist captivated by old Hagi and led into the path of Hagi ware. Distinct from what is generally seen in contemporary Hagi, it suggests a new direction for Hagi ceramics. Diameter: 13.2 cm / Height: 9cm With original signed wooden box (tomobako) and original cloth (tomonuno). (We will ship within 3 business days after completing your order.)
