Allegheny Pachysandra offers the evergreen-style groundcover effect of pachysandra in a native alternative. Low stems spread gradually into colonies of handsome blue-green leaves, often developing attractive silver mottling as the season progresses. In early spring, fragrant white to pinkish-white flower spikes rise above the foliage, adding subtle color and providing nectar and pollen for early bees. Also called Allegheny Spurge, this southeastern woodland native performs beautifully in partial to full shade and adapts well to ordinary medium garden soil. Once established, it can tolerate periods of dryness and spreads at a more manageable pace than many aggressive groundcovers. It is especially useful beneath shrubs, along woodland paths, on shaded slopes, and anywhere a low, textured native groundcover is needed. Why Choose Allegheny Pachysandra: Native alternative to introduced Japanese pachysandra Blue-green foliage develops attractive silver mottling Fragrant spring flowers support early bees Performs well in partial to full shade Spreads gradually into a manageable woodland groundcover Plant in partial to full shade with medium, well-drained soil and water during establishment. Allow colonies to spread naturally, or trim wandering stems as needed to keep edges tidy.
