2022 Super Italian

Two Italian grapes from different regions meet in a blend that could only have been imagined in Washington. Our 2022 Super Italian combines 67% Sagrantino with 33% Primitivo. Sagrantino, rooted in Umbria, provides bold structure, vibrant acidity and the ability to age. Primitivo, associated with Puglia in southern Italy, contributes ripe fruit, softness and immediate generosity. Together, they create a red wine with the depth serious collectors appreciate and the balance to make the first bottle difficult to put down. Aging entirely in neutral oak preserves the character of both varieties. Nothing is covered by heavy oak flavors: Sagrantino remains the unmistakable backbone, while Primitivo rounds its edges and adds another layer of fruit and complexity. Rich, structured and inviting upon release, the 2022 Super Italian can be enjoyed now or cellared for the next five to ten years. It is an unconventional Italian blend, a returning customer favorite and a distinctly Bartholomew expression of what becomes possible when tradition inspires creativity.
