Golden Heatwave

Heatwave — an exclusive collection of seven original acrylic on linen works created for this exhibition. Sun-soaked and unapologetically vibrant, Heatwave hums with saturated pinks, coral reds, marine blues and citrus tones. The contrast is deliberate. The energy is magnetic. Mitchell English’s paintings do not simply depict the coastline; they distil it. Heat shimmers. Figures blur. Horizons dissolve into atmosphere. Gesture and memory collide in bold, expressive strokes that feel at once nostalgic and immediate. The ocean is present — but so too is the emotional temperature of summer. Sydney-born and now Noosa-based, English brings more than three decades of practice to this exhibition. A lifelong surfer with a refined art historical eye, his work has been recognised in major Australian art prizes including the Mosman Art Prize, the Gold Coast Art Prize and the Shirley Hannan Portrait Award, and is held in significant public and private collections — including Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum.
