Roussanne, Savoie, France A bona-fide firecracker of a zero-zero ginger-tangerine jam from one of France’s most buzzy vignerons! Hot take but we will put good, hard-earned dollars down to bet this will be one of the best skin-contact wines you’ll ever have in your life. Winemaker Jean Yves-Péron trained in Bordeaux but eventually moved home to grow grapes on rocky, steep & schist-blanketed mountains of French alpine town Savoie. Before orange wine had a young n’ hip following, Jean-Yves was one of the only winemakers in his region making orange wine. He lives by a no-rules approach (same!!) where he never makes the same wine the same way. Instead he lets the rascal grapes lead the way! In this case, opulent roussanne grapes – skins, flesh, seeds & stems – spent about two weeks stewing it up before they were pressed and sent to neutral oak barrels to import some delicious width. The result is a real victoire écrasante: brioche bun, peach honey, undying mountain herbs, stolen hotel lotion, long meadows, short-kept gardens, the soft slink of a caterpillar back & keeping that one precious time held like fireflies in glass. Open a bottle for your favourite friend on their birthday and serve them something equally fancy & fun – like lobster tails with ramp butter. SPECIAL NOTE: This wild & of-the-moment wine is best slurped within a few hours of opening!
