A sharpening rod removes a small amount of material from the cutting edge to restore the sharpness of a knife that has become dull. Ideal when your kitchen knives start to cut noticeably less smoothly after frequent use. How to use a sharpening rod 1. Position the sharpening rod securely Place the tip of the sharpening rod on a stable cutting board. This gives you good control while sharpening. 2. Position the knife at the correct angle Place the heel of the knife against the sharpening rod and hold the blade at the correct sharpening angle. 3. Sharpen from heel to tip Gently move the knife along the sharpening rod, from the heel all the way to the tip. This ensures the entire cutting edge is sharpened. 4. Alternate between both sides Repeat the movement on the other side of the knife, alternating evenly between both sides until the knife is sharp again.
