A sometsuke plate — underglaze blue and white — in Arita porcelain. The design begins with traditional motifs, simplified, then set by inban — a stamped technique used in place of a brush. The style echoes Old Imari, an earlier line of Arita porcelain. Small flecks of black iron surface here and there in the glaze. At the table, for a shared dish's portion — or on its own, for wagashi after a meal.
