Enzymes are the alpha step of all biology — the first cut that makes everything else possible. They cleave protein, starch and fat at the molecular level so bacteria and biofilters can finish the job. Apply: into a high-flow area — sump return, spray bar or in front of a powerhead. Notes: leave all filtration running as normal — nothing needs switching off. Neglected systems may cloud 24–72 hours as waste lifts; rinse mechanical media as it surfaces. 🪨 Scrub — external Rate: 3.5 g (five level scoops) per 10 L, soak 12–24 hours. Repeat as needed. Apply: pre-dissolve in a jug, add to a container of tank or dechlorinated water with circulation. Scrub lightly if needed, rinse before returning. Notes: suits rock, substrate, timber and decorative pieces. Timber and porous rock may need a second soak. 🔪 Cleanse — external Rate: 1.4 g (two level scoops) per 1 L, dip 5–10 minutes maximum. Apply: pre-dissolve fully before introducing any animal. Submerge, swish to wet every surface, airstone running. Rinse in clean tank water before returning. Notes: the biological scalpel at full strength. Do not exceed 10 minutes on delicate corals or invertebrates. Always rinse after dipping. 🍽️ Food Fortify — internal Rate: small feeds — a light dusting over the portion, shake off any excess. Large feeds — 10 g per kilo of food. Apply: dust onto the food, shake off excess if present, mist lightly with tank water, tumble to coat, rest 5 minutes, feed as normal. Notes: suits pellets, flakes, gel foods and frozen preparations. How can one powder work in the water and on the food?Because the base biological action is identical in both places: enzymes cleave molecular bonds. Externally, they cleave the bonds holding sludge, biofilm and detritus together so waste breaks down faster and filtration can remove it. Internally, they cleave the same bonds in the ration once they reach the gut — improving digestion and nutrient uptake so animals absorb more and excrete less. Same scalpel, four ways to wield it. Can I use more than one mode at once?Yes. In-tank dosing handles waste already in the system. Scrub mode is for out-of-tank deep cleaning. Cleanse mode is for new frags and equipment. Food fortification reduces what goes in going forward. Together they compound. Is the coral dip safe?At the stated concentration and 5 to 10 minute contact time, ProtoFort Alpha is suitable for hard and soft corals, frag plugs and invertebrates. Always rinse thoroughly in clean tank water after dipping. Do not exceed 10 minutes on delicate species. Is it safe for shrimp, snails and corals in the tank?Yes. Enzymes are proteins that act on organic debris, not animals. At the recommended dose it is safe for the full clean-up crew, including sensitive shrimp and reef invertebrates. Will it affect my beneficial bacteria or cycle?It works with them. By breaking solid waste into dissolved fragments it feeds your biofilter rather than competing with it. Mature cycles are unaffected. It is a powder — how do I store it?Keep the tub sealed and dry. Moisture is the only real enemy of enzyme powders. Store in a cool cupboard away from direct sun and away from tank humidity and splashback. Keep the scoop dry between uses. Does it replace water changes?No supplement replaces water changes, and we would never claim it does. What keepers report is easier maintenance: less sludge to siphon, cleaner media, stable water between changes. Can I overdose?Modest overdosing in-tank is low-risk; worst case is temporary cloudiness as extra organics lift. For dip mode, do not exceed the stated concentration or contact time.
