A 24" to 30" opening takes the 9 piece set, 36" to 42" takes the 12 piece set, and 48" or larger takes the 15 piece set. For example, the 180K BTU Crossfire burner is meant for openings of 30" or larger, so a 30" fire pit with that burner uses the 9 piece set and a 36" fire pit uses the 12 piece set.Do I still need lava rock?Yes. The usual setup is a base layer of lava rock over the burner and plate, with the logs placed on top. Keep the burner ports clear so the flame can come up through the logs.Can I use a flat cover?No. The logs stand above the rim of the fire pit, so a flat cover will not sit on the fire pit while the logs are in place.Charred or Oak Classic?Both come in the same sizes and prices.
