A Chinese Daybed Coffee Table

This sturdy and elegant coffee table was once a much larger daybed in 19th-century Shanxi Province, China. The original bed was taken apart and meticulously cut down to a more practical size. The original jute cord webbing has been retained, as well as the original woven rattan top. Accordingly, the top is taut and firm, like a drum. The classic horseshoe-shaped wood legs and frame are Chinese elm, covered in black-brown natural lacquer. The piece is sturdy and simple and blends easily with modern decor.
