Architecture for kids - not childish 05/09

A place we all know. A place we visit every day. A place that sometimes… doesn’t smell very pleasant. Yes - we will be designing a toilet. But not as an object - as an experience. Can a toilet sit on top of a mountain? Underwater? Can it be invisible, humorous, or even a little dangerous? In this workshop, children will discover that even the most ordinary space can become architecture - if you learn to see it differently. We will begin with a short inspiration session, exploring some of the world’s most unexpected toilets and asking why they were designed that way. After a brief discussion, the most important part begins - children will create their own space using recycled materials. The only rule: the toilet cannot be ordinary. Something unexpected must happen within it. Through this workshop, we will encourage children to notice architecture in everyday surroundings, develop creativity through an unconventional theme, learn to think in terms of space rather than just form, and explore design through play and experimentation.
