August Intermediate Wheel

Build on the basics and gain confidence on the wheel. This course is designed for students who have taken 1–2 Beginning Wheel classes and are looking to bridge the gap and help prepare for Continuing Wheel or Studio Membership. Classes meet for two hours each week for a total of four sessions, with open studio time every day for you to practice on your own. See the class schedule below. Location Still Life Ceramics 700 Livernois Street Ferndale, MI 48220 Class Outline In this four-week course, you’ll work on refining foundational skills while introducing new forms and techniques to help improve consistency, control, and throwing weight. You’ll focus on practicing even wall thickness, increasing the amount of clay, exploring new forms, and refining trimming and glazing. The goal is to strengthen your techniques and deepen your understanding of form and function, so you feel confident working independently. Lessons are as follows: Week 1: Throwing Similar Forms/Increasing Clay Weight Week 2: Trimming Refinement Week 3: Exploring New Forms/Skill Refinement Week 4: Glazing and surface design Course fee includes clay, use of studio tools, a rainbow of cone 5 glazes to choose from, and firing for up to 10-12 pieces. Classes meet once a week for 2-hour sessions, with open studio time daily for you to practice on your own. We strongly advise you to make sure you'll be able to attend all class sessions before signing up. We do not offer make-ups for this class. Cancellations made 4 or more days before the start of the class will be refunded. For cancellations made fewer than 4 full days, but more than 24 hours before the start time, a 50% refund or 50% credit toward another class or workshop will be issued. We cannot provide refunds or credits for cancellations or rescheduling requests made fewer than 24 hours before class starts, if you miss class, or arrive too late to participate.
