Green Toadstool

Sarcophyton sp. Green Toadstool is a hardy leather coral with a broad, mushroom-like cap and green polyps that add soft movement and structure to a reef aquarium. It is a strong choice for newer reef keepers, while still being useful in established mixed reefs where a durable, aquacultured soft coral is needed. Toadstool leathers are generally peaceful because they do not rely on aggressive sweeper tentacles, but they can contribute to chemical competition in mixed coral systems. Give the coral room to expand, avoid crowding sensitive stony corals, and consider running activated carbon or other chemical filtration in systems with SPS or other more reactive corals. Good flow helps keep detritus off the cap and supports normal shedding, a common leather coral behaviour where the coral may close temporarily before reopening with improved polyp extension. For best results, start the coral in a lower or mid-level position and move it gradually if stronger light is desired.
