Summer Colorwork Socks Workshop with Angela
Join us for a beginner-friendly sock knitting workshop where you will learn the fundamental techniques of crafting a fun colorwork pair of socks, as well as an afterthought heel. Perfect for those new to the world of sock knitting and want to learn new skills, or those of you who are interested in refining your sock knitting skills. This class will provide hands-on guidance and foundational skills you'll need to take the mystery out of knitting scrappy socks. Class Highlights: Introduction to Materials: Review the Anatomy of a sock, discuss ways to make knitting the scrappy stripes as smooth as possible. Review types of yarn suitable for socks, and other essential tools. Anatomy of a Sock: Familiarize yourself with the Anatomy of Colorwork socks Reading a Sock Pattern: Break down the Colorwork Sock pattern to understand its structure and instructions. Talk about Heels and what works best for this pattern. Tips and Troubleshooting: Discuss common challenges faced by beginners and learn practical tips to overcome them. We will also discuss the how to weave in ends as you go and close holes in the stripes. By the end of this class, participants will have a solid understanding of the colorwork sock knitting process, and with a bit of practice, you will be knitting your own unique socks confidently. Whether you're knitting for yourself or as a heartfelt gift, this class will set you on a path to creating beautiful wearable art that fits comfortably. Summer Quarter session: June 29 -- 6:00-8:30 PM Materials to bring to class: Pattern: Sheep Festival Socks in the The Sock Obsession Book by Summer Lee Sock: a started sock that has the cuff knit. Fingering weight sock yarn a main color 50g of your main color, 50 grams for contrast, and a 20g mini for the sheep faces. These should be high contrast so that the colorwork will stand out, also for added fun if you would like fuzzy sheep think about adding a mohair or suri to your project. Needles: US 1 (2.25mm) and US 2 (2.75mm) You may need to size up your needles if you are a tight knitter. Participants can choose Magic Loop, DPNs, Or 9” circulars. Please note: If using 9” circulars, you may want to have a second 9” or 12” circular to knit your heels, and toes. Stitch markers, tapestry needles, highlighter tape, sock ruler, etc.
