St Aidan Statue

I’ve always enjoyed drawing and painting statues from life, probably because they always sit still! Amongst those in my collection are The Response and The Kiss. I was once invited to produce a series of paintings for a group exhibition involving various local artists based around images of Holy Island. Not all the artists kept to the allocated theme, one of them exhibited a painting of elephants! Most of my paintings were landscape watercolours of Holy Island, however I was quite taken by the St Aidan Statue. I produced a smaller watercolour painted on location and from this reference and the photographs I took, I painted this larger study of the famous monk.
