Unusual Victorian lace quarto valentine, measuring about 10” tall. Handwritten with a layer of lace paper decorated with colored die cuts. It doesn’t open- it appears uncut, like the uncut pages of an old book. Refer to photos for condition: Overall good with some age tanning and foxing. Circa 1870. Message reads (accounting for spelling errors/anachronisms): “May I once more now speak to thee Immortalized beauty of Tripoli Say but I may and I’ll confess Secrets which my heart oppress [sic] Tis of your bright eyes only, I now will speak Unable to do justice to all your merits For in your eyes alone a new world I meet Fresh hopes each glance of them inherits The heart of your enamored.”
