Kenya, Gichathaini AB
Nyeri County is one of Kenya’s most celebrated coffee regions, located between Mt Kenya and the Aberdare ranges just east of the Great Rift Valley. With rich red volcanic soils, steady rainfall and warm but gentle temperatures, it’s perfect for growing coffee. Gichathaini Factory, a wet mill on the western slopes, works with around 770 smallholder members of the Gikanda Farmers’ Cooperative, each managing less than a hectare. The cup is elegant and layered, with ripe raspberry, soft toffee sweetness and a gentle hint of peach rounding out each sip.
