Orchid Orchid Epidendrum radicans Tropical Plant rooted divisions Epidendrum radicans is a species of orchid native to Central America and northern South America. This orchid is characterized by its ability to sprout roots along the entire length of its stem. Common names include Reed orchid, Crucifix orchid, Fire-star orchid. It is a herbaceous plant with a terrestrial habit (it grows on the ground, not on trees like most orchid in trade), generally on rocks, being very variable, with long and fleshy aerial roots that come out of the stems. The flowers can appear throughout the year. Photos are of plants similar to what you will receive that may or may not be in bloom. The orchid you receive will be divisions sent bare root. Some plants may have keiki. Plant in ground in Zones 10–12, under full sun or partial shade in loamy, sandy, well-drained soil. All day sun may cause blemished, dried leaves. Perfect under a palm or potted on screened patio, pool side. Bring potted plant indoors in cooler climates come winter when overnight temps drop below 40 degrees.
