Between Earth and Heaven — Easter at Immaculate Conception Church
In this painting I wanted to capture something that happens in sacred spaces on Easter morning — the way flowers, candlelight, and centuries of stone architecture conspire to say something that words can't quite reach. The Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport is a place of extraordinary beauty. Painting its interior meant wrestling with light that seems to come from everywhere and nowhere, and with the peculiar challenge watercolor presents — you can't force it. You have to receive what it gives you. 15" x 22" watercolor on Baohong rough paper.
