Nocturne Cushion Workshop
The Nocturne Cushion Workshop is a three-week hand embroidery course focused on slow, tactile making, fabric layering, and developing confidence with needle and thread. Participants create an embroidered fan motif using vintage silk ties and decorative hand stitching, working within a shared format while developing individual colour palettes and stitch combinations. The fan is embroidered onto a black dupion silk cushion front, forming the basis of the finished piece. You may begin completely from the beginning, preparing and composing your own fan structure, or work from a selection of prepared wedges. This allows for different paces and levels of experience, supporting both exploratory and more guided approaches. Embroidery techniques are introduced progressively, with an emphasis on building texture, richness, and visual interest through the repetition and layering of simple stitched elements. There is no pressure to achieve perfect embroidery; the focus is on process, confidence, rhythm, and developing an individual approach to making. This workshop is designed for beginners and experienced makers alike. All techniques are taught step by step, with time for guided practice, experimentation, and individual support. No prior embroidery experience is required. Rose will then complete your work into a removable, zippered black dupion silk cushion cover, finished with a quality new cushion insert. The completed cushion will be available for collection at a later date. Tea, coffee, and homemade cake are served throughout the workshop series in a relaxed and welcoming studio environment.
