October Half Term Activities October Half-Term Activities for kids aged 8-16yrs (flexible). Based just outside Brighton on our own private lake. This is the ideal kids activity club for the school holidays. This October Half Term, get ready for action on the water! We're running: 1) Youth Stage 1 and 2 Sailing Course 2) Mixed Sport Activity Days Further Information: 1) RYA Youth Stage 1 & 2 Sailing course serves as an introduction to the world of sailing. Based at our sailing centre in Piddinghoe, 10 mins from Brighton. It is suitable for beginners with little to no prior experience. RYA Youth Stage 1, is 2 days of sailing (16 hrs). RYA stage 1 : Takes your child to a confident level of sailing. Our lake is safe and secure, it has wind but without the sea's waves that are often over whelming for kids when learning. RYA stage 2 : Setting out the foundations of sailing for you, sailing ability along with theoretical knowledge is assumed to be up to RYA stage 1 standard. The course consists of rigging a dinghy with minimal help, understanding how to launch a boat in different wind directions, and learning standard sailing manoeuvres. Stage 1 & 2. Dates: 26th-30th October 2026 Time: 9am to 3pm Price: £450 Location: Piddinghoe Lake, Ceder Lane BN9 9AF. Mixed Sport Activity Days These activity days are designed to balance fun and learning new skills. The day covers and develops a wide range of skills, abilities, goals, aimed at ages (8-16). Activities we aim to provide: Try Sailing (Taster) Paddle boarding Jumbo paddle boarding Kayaking Dates: Tuesday & Thursday (each day must be booked separately) Time: 9am to 3pm Price: £65 (per day) Location: Piddinghoe Lake, Ceder Lane BN9 9AF. What we provide: Wetsuits and cags Buoyancy aids. You are welcome to bring your own kit What you need: Warm clothing. Old shoes or wet shoes, Lunch, Reusable Water Bottle, Shower kit. All kids must have entry level swim ability Please email any questions to : info@thebrightonwatersports.co.uk To be accepted in the stage 3 kids would need to have done stage 1 and 2. The days will be divided into morning and afternoon activities - what we do will depend a little on the weather each day. More Details of activities RYA Youth Start Sailing Stage 1 course content: Launching and Recovery of a small sail boat Sailing across the wind, Turning control Steering and rudder controls Learning parts of the boat. RYA Youth Start Sailing Stage 2 Content: Basic sailing, practicing steering in all directions Learning parts of the boat Rigging boats. Hoisting sails, setting sails and trimming Introducing all points of Sail Tacking and Gybing Sailing around a course Ropework Collision avoidance and turning Paddle sports: Parts of the kayak/canoe/paddle board, Learning to paddle, Improved paddle stroke, Balance, Self-rescue, Capsize recovery, Towing. Land based activities: Rope work, Sailing theory, Water safety, Weather watch. Cancellation Policies: For more than 4 weeks cancellation notice, you'll receive a 50% refund of your booking. For less than 4 weeks cancellation notice, you'll receive no refund of your booking. Please be aware that in order for the courses to take place we need a minimum of 3 people booked on. If we are approaching the course and there are still less than 3 people booked, we will contact you to reschedule you to one of our other dates or refund you. In the event that we have to cancel due to weather, we will be in contact with you to reschedule your course to one of our next available dates. In the case that we don't have any new course dates coming up, then we will refund you. Blue Green Algae Notice Blue Green Algae is found in most UK inland waterways and can be found in Piddinghoe Lake. While usually harmless, seasonal peaks can cause visible symptoms.
