Brilliant Chickadee

I love aspens to the bottom of my soul — the way their energy lifts me, the way their sound settles everything down. I painted this one on reclaimed perforated steel, so the grove is lit from behind by electric blues and violets while the canopy burns gold overhead, and the light actually moves through the piece the way it moves through a real stand of trees. An aspen grove is one organism sharing one root system, and that's what I'm after here — not a handful of trees, but a whole connected family standing together.
