𝗜𝗢𝗗 𝗦𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 | 10” x 6” The 𝗜𝗢𝗗 𝗦𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 by Iron Orchid Designs creates an extraordinary collection of ornate, dimensional snowflakes inspired by architectural ornament, carved embellishments, and elaborate old-world decorative details. Originally introduced as a limited-edition holiday design in 2020, Snowflakes includes 10 individual casting designs ranging from petite accents to large statement snowflakes. These are far more elaborate than simple geometric snowflakes. Each design combines beautifully sculpted leaves, flourishes, petals, scrollwork, beaded borders, finials, and architectural details to create the look of antique plasterwork, carved wood, or collected European ornaments. One of the most useful features of the 𝗜𝗢𝗗 𝗦𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 is its symmetry. Cast the same design twice and join the flat backs together to create dimensional, double-sided Christmas ornaments and hanging decorations. Or use individual castings flat for furniture embellishments, gift toppers, signs, frames, shadow boxes, mixed-media art, and seasonal home décor. As shown in our project photos, these snowflakes are especially beautiful finished in snowy white with pearlescent shimmer or glitter. The intricate relief catches the light beautifully, giving even a simple finish an elegant frosted, icy appearance. They also make spectacular package embellishments—attach a casting to ribbon or a gift box and the wrapping becomes part of the gift. Cast two copies of the same snowflake and join their flat backs together. A loop of ribbon, cord, or decorative thread can be incorporated between the two halves to create a finished hanging ornament. Finish your snowflakes with pearl paint, glitter, mica, metallic wax, gold or silver leaf, glaze, antique wax, or a combination of finishes to accentuate all of the intricate sculpted details. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: • For IOD Air Dry Clay, press clay firmly into the detailed areas and points of each snowflake • Remove excess clay from the back using the Micro-Rim as your guide • Pay particular attention to fine tips, flourishes, and openwork areas so the details are completely filled • Moist clay castings can be released before drying and adhered directly to furniture, boxes, signs, frames, and other surfaces • Air dry clay may shrink, crack, or warp slightly as it dries, which can contribute to an authentically aged appearance • A light dusting of cornstarch or arrowroot can help if clay is sticking • Casting resin is an excellent choice when crisp detail and consistent dimensions are especially important • When pouring resin into intricate snowflake cavities, use a toothpick or fine tool to gently guide resin into narrow tips and detailed areas • Follow the resin manufacturer’s mixing, working-time, curing, and safety instructions • Add ribbon, metallic cord, thread, beads, crystals, or tassels to transform finished castings into hanging ornaments • Use an appropriate adhesive when attaching finished castings to décor surfaces • Wash with mild soap and water and dry thoroughly before storing • Keep food-use and craft-use moulds separate
