Walking on Water

“Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Matthew 14:27) In the middle of the night, with the wind against them and the waves battering their boat, the disciples saw Jesus coming toward them, walking on the water. In that moment they learned that no storm is beyond His reach, and that He comes to His people in the middle of it. This painting brings you close to that moment. Instead of a distant scene, it focuses on Jesus’ sandaled feet and the hem of His cream robe as He steps calmly across a churning sea. Heavy, textured brushstrokes build up crashing gray-blue waves, white spray, and dark storm clouds, with a faint shoreline on the horizon. The dramatic close-up turns a familiar story into something personal: the storm is real, but so is the One walking on it.
