The Field Notes, Series of 8, Early 1900s
A rather extraordinary collection of eight British botanical field studies, dating to the early 20th century. Delicately rendered in watercolour, each sheet documents a selection of wildflowers and native plants, complete with handwritten annotations, botanical names and the charming irregularities of a naturalist's working notes. From vivid blue cornflowers and scarlet poppies to the most delicate flowering stems, there is a wonderful intimacy to these studies- part scientific observation, part artistic expression. Each has been individually mounted and framed in exquisite, handcrafted marquetry frames by Harry Eagle, whose intricate geometric inlay lends a beautiful sense of craftsmanship and warmth to the collection. This marquetry has been discontinued. Equally compelling displayed as a complete nine-piece installation or arranged in smaller groupings, these are the sort of pieces that bring history, character and a little of the English countryside indoors. A truly special marriage of botanical art and exceptional framing. If you are looking for a series of 9 instead of 8, here is the series of nine. Keep out of direct sunlight and gently dust with a soft cloth. Please note this item is final sale.
