This is a lavender candle for people who don’t necessarily think they’re lavender-candle people. Votivo Saint Germain Lavender is clean, airy and a little sessy! It opens with ozone, white linen and a little seashore, then you get the soft lavender, with tonka, vanilla and patchouli underneath to warm the whole thing up. It smells clean. Breezy. Expensive. Like fresh sheets at the spa with the windows open — but not in a “fresh laundry” way. The lavender is there, obviously, but it’s softer and more sophisticated than your standard spa lavender. No giant LAVENDER. No enormous logo competing with your backsplash, your books, your art, your life. You have an eye. Your home has a point of view. To me, candles should blend into the beauty of the room you created and let the scent do the talking. We know it’s a candle. We don’t need a billboard explaining it to us. Votivo uses its proprietary soy-blend wax with paper and cotton wicks, which I’m a fan of. Soy is all I burn at the studio. The company designed the blend for a clean, even burn, and keeping the wick trimmed to about ¼ inch helps keep it that way. And you’ll want to burn this one. Bedroom, bathroom, massage room, guest room, beach house — anywhere you want things to feel a little calmer, cleaner and more put together. Especially a bedroom! This is the candle I’d burn after changing the sheets, opening the windows and calling it a day.
