Birth of God Original

9x12 gouache and watercolor on paper Birth of God is an image of a woman pregnant with the universe, inspired by a mystical teaching from Meister Eckhart that I came across while exploring my own creative source: “I once had a dream, even though a man, I dreamt I was pregnant, pregnant with nothingness. And out of this nothingness, God was born.” I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the idea that something divine can begin in what looks like nothing. We often think of being lost, blocked, or floating in limbo as a lack of progress, but sometimes there is something forming beneath the surface that simply isn’t ready to be seen yet. A universe can begin as nothing. For me, the pregnant woman became a symbol of this creative mystery. She carries not only new life, but possibility itself. The universe inside her represents the paintings, ideas, businesses, relationships, and new versions of ourselves that begin long before we know what they will become. Sometimes the most creative thing we can do is wait, listen, and trust what is quietly forming within us. I created this painting as a reminder that creation does not always begin with an answer. Sometimes it begins with emptiness, mystery, and the willingness to stay there long enough for something divine to emerge.
