Antique Victorian Oak Wooden Coal Scuttle / Log Box / Green Man Carving c.1890 A wonderful antique Victorian oak coal scuttle or kindling log box dating to around 1890, featuring a highly decorative carved Green Man to the front. A particularly attractive and unusual piece, made from solid oak with a beautifully aged, warm patina. The front incorporates an impressive carved Green Man motif, a traditional decorative symbol often associated with nature, woodland and renewal. The scuttle has a hinged front panel which pulls forward / down to reveal the original interior tin liner. The substantial oak construction, decorative carving and original fittings give this piece plenty of character. Although originally intended for storing coal beside a fireplace, it would now make an excellent log box, fireside storage chest for fire starters or simply an attractive period feature piece. 47cm X 34.5cm // Height 59.5cm Condition - Good useable order. The top decorative plinth / pendant would originally have had two further plinths coming off it (one in each side) but these have been removed at some point. Item No. 9493
