The birth of a White Buffalo Calf is the fulfilment of a Lakota prophecy where a spirit woman named Ptecincala Ska Wakan Winan who came to the physical world long ago to save the people in a time of great suffering. She healed the people and the land and taught the Lakota the sacred ceremonies for maintaining harmony and balance in the world.
