Magdarhabdus PCR Test for Birds Magdarhabdus PCR Test is a fast and accurate laboratory PCR screening test designed to detect Macrorhabdus ornithogaster (formerly known as "Megabacteria") in birds. Using a simple cloacal swab or fresh faecal sample, this assay assists with the early detection of infection and supports appropriate treatment planning, flock management, and biosecurity decisions. Macrorhabdus ornithogaster primarily affects the junction between the proventriculus and ventriculus and is associated with a range of gastrointestinal health problems. Infected birds may show signs including weight loss despite a good appetite, chronic regurgitation, vomiting, diarrhoea, undigested seed in droppings, poor condition, reduced performance, and, in severe cases, sudden death.
