Antique 19th Century French Faux Bamboo Pine Armoire Wardrobe Cupboard 1880
A fine quality antique 19th century French faux bamboo pine wardrobe/armoire, circa 1880. The armoire is made of finely grained French pine throughout, to the top is a stepped crown made of faux bamboo, the armoire is flanked by faux bamboo columns. The armoire is unusual to have twin doors (as many of these late 19th century armoires have a single door) each with three panels with vertical and horizontal lozenge shaped decoration. The doors enclose a single shelf which can be placed back or placed down, to the interior of the base is a pair of drawers, the armoire has a hanging rail to the top interior and will receive a standard or oversize coat hanger. Although the armoire is very convincingly carved to replicate bamboo, it is in fact made from solid pine, the wardrobe has a warm mellow honey colored patina, it has just loving received a coat of wax in Bloomsbury's professional workshops.
