Culshaw was the man behind Sholty's Ring of Fire and Britten's War Requiem, and he also predicted music streaming decades before the advent of iTunes and Spotify. The set begins in early 1948, when Culshaw began his career as a producer for Decca. It includes many long-lost artists and many recordings that have not been released on CD or reissued since the original LP. Copland's own compositions, the first studio recording of Barber's Adagio for Strings, recordings from the Bayreuth Festival in 1951 and 1953, from Clifford Curzon's lost tapes, Culshaw's 1954 recording for Capital Records by Georg Solti The collection includes very rare recordings, including the world premiere of Brahms' "German Requiem" by Georg Schorty, recorded by Culshaw for Capital Records. There is also a recording of a rehearsal scene from Scholty's Tristan und Isolde narrated by Culshaw and Culshaw talking about Götterdämmerung. All are newly mastered at 24bit/192kHz from the original sources. The 52-page booklet is a must-have for collectors and includes an essay by Decca Classics label director and Grammy Award-winning producer Dominic Fife, who selected and edited the music for this set, as well as many previously unpublished photos and recorded materials.
