Melaton

Allium ampeloprasum Melaton leek was bred at UBC Farm. The population came from a dehybridization project that aimed to create a good open pollinated leek out of the Belton hybrid variety. Melaton has been performing in the top 5 best fall/winter leek within the UBC farm variety trial among 30 other leek varieties. Start fall/overwintering varieties in March/May. Germination in 8-16 days. Sow seeds 1cm deep, thin to 1cm apart. Transplant when seedlings reach 20cm tall.
