The Firebox Wide 1400W electric fireplace insert. 23 inches wide, 5 inches deep. 5,000 BTU. 400 sq ft coverage. Realistic amber log-flame effect with 3 brightness levels. Remote + touch panel. Drops into a wider existing masonry fireplace opening, TV console cutout, or cabinet opening — or sits freestanding on a hearth stone. CSA + UL certified. We'll say it before you do Every 1500W-class electric fireplace on the market makes essentially the same heat. Ours, the one at the big-box store, the one your neighbor bought online — watts in equals BTU out. Anyone telling you their fireplace is "more efficient" is selling you a story. What actually differs about The Firebox Wide is where it fits. This is the wider sibling to our 18-inch Firebox. Same heater core, same LED log flame, same controls — 5 more inches of glass across the front. It drops into the rectangular opening you already have, when that opening is closer to 23-26 inches wide than 18-20. Wider masonry fireplaces from the 1960s-1980s. Larger TV consoles with fireplace-shaped cutouts. Wide cabinet or built-in openings. Or freestanding on a flat hearth stone with nothing holding it down but its own 16 lbs. No wall-mount bracket. No drywall to cut. No contractor. What Actually Differs 23 inches wide, 17 inches tall, 5 inches deep. Sized to drop into the wider rectangular openings common in mid-century and older homes: 1960s-1980s masonry fireplace surrounds that are too wide for an 18-inch insert to look right in, factory-cut wide TV console cutouts, and larger modular cabinet openings. Measure your existing opening. If it's at least 25" wide, 17" tall, and 5" deep, this fits. Mounting flanges on the corners let you screw it into a wooden surround if you want it locked in — otherwise gravity holds it in place. Realistic amber log-flame effect. Molded resin log bed with LED backlighting behind a wider tempered glass front. 3 flame brightness levels (low, medium, high). This is the traditional log-fire look, not the modern crystal-ember look of the Crystal Panel line. At normal viewing distance in evening light, the wider flame window reads as convincing. 1400W. 5,000 BTU. 400 sq ft coverage. Same effective heating power as the 18-inch Firebox and most 1500W-class competitors. Rated to warm a well-insulated 400 sq ft room. In a drafty 800 sq ft great room, the Firebox Wide will feel warmer near it but the far corners still need your regular heat. Remote + touch panel. That's it. Handheld remote with 26 ft range. Touch buttons on the top strip for flame, power, timer, thermostat. Adjustable thermostat 62°F–82°F. 0–6 hour timer in one-hour increments. No phone app. No WiFi setup. No Alexa configuration. No cloud account. If you have felt like every appliance in your house has become a Bluetooth-pairing exercise, that absence is the point. Overheat shutoff. Cool-touch tempered glass. CSA + UL certified. Element cycles down automatically if the housing overheats. Tempered glass front stays cool to touch. Iron and steel housing. Front-strip vent moves warm air out the top. CSA certification. UL-certified plug. Same safety standards as any brand-name electric fireplace insert. Perfect For A wider existing masonry fireplace surround that has been sealed off and sitting empty (any opening at least 25" × 17" × 5"). A large TV media console with a factory-made rectangular fireplace-insert cutout that's too wide for an 18-inch insert. A wide built-in cabinet or bookshelf with a rectangular opening. Freestanding on a flat hearth stone, wide raised stone platform, or slate ledge. A medium-to-large room, home office, guest suite, or cabin — anywhere 300–400 sq ft with an outlet nearby. Rental apartments with a wider existing decorative fireplace opening. People who want a fireplace without an app, cloud account, or WiFi setup. Specifications Power: 1400W, 5,000 BTU Coverage: up to 400 sq ft Voltage / Frequency: 120V / 60Hz Amperage: ~12A (standard household 15A circuit) Overall Dimensions: 25" wide × 5" deep × 17" tall Front Panel Dimensions: 23" × 17" Weight: 16 lbs Power Cord: standard three-prong plug Materials: iron and steel housing, tempered glass front, molded resin log bed with LED backlighting Installation: insert into existing wider rectangular opening (mounting flanges included) or freestanding on hearth stone; no wall-mount bracket Flame: realistic amber log flame effect, 3-level brightness (low / medium / high) Modes: flame + heat, flame only Thermostat: adjustable 62°F–82°F in 1°F steps Controls: handheld remote (26 ft range) + top-panel touch buttons Timer: 0–6 hours in one-hour increments Safety: overheat shutoff, cool-touch tempered glass, CSA certified, UL-certified plug What Is Included 1× Firebox Wide 23" electric fireplace insert 1× handheld remote control (battery included) 1× user manual with insert and freestanding installation instructions What It Cannot Do It is not wider than 23 inches. If your existing opening is 30+ inches wide, this will look small in it. Measure before ordering. It is not wall-mount. No wall-mount bracket in the box. If you have a bare wall and want a modern flat panel hanging on it, look at The Crystal Panel line instead. This is an insert designed to drop into an existing rectangular opening. It is not warmer than the smaller 18-inch Firebox. Same heater core, same 1400W, same 5,000 BTU, same 400 sq ft coverage. The 23-inch width buys you visual scale in a wider opening, not extra thermal output. It is not smart-home compatible. No app. No WiFi. No Alexa integration. No IFTTT triggers. Remote and top-panel touch buttons only. It is not a real fire. The molded log bed and amber flame effect look convincing at normal viewing distance in evening light, but it is an LED-lit visual effect. No wood, no smoke, no crackling, no chimney draw. It should not be left running unattended in heat mode. Use the timer. Never leave heat mode on when you leave the house or go to sleep. Flame-only mode (no heat, ~12W draw) is safe to leave overnight. It draws roughly 12A at 1400W. Plug directly into a wall outlet on its own circuit, not a power strip or extension cord. It does not fit every opening. Measure yours: 25" wide × 17" tall × 5" deep minimum. If your opening is closer to 18-20 inches wide, get the smaller Firebox instead.
