Asian Upside Catfish (Mystus Leucophasis) 6-8cm
Asian Upside Catfish (Mystus Leucophasis) The Asian Upside-Down Catfish (Mystus leucophasis) is an intriguing and distinctive species, known for its unusual behavior of swimming on its back, particularly while feeding at the surface of the water or relaxing beneath driftwood. With its streamlined, torpedo-like body, elongated barbels, and a beautiful gradient of silver to dark hues, this nocturnal fish adds both personality and dynamism to medium to large freshwater aquariums. Feeding: This catfish is an opportunistic omnivore that enjoys a diverse diet, including sinking pellets, bloodworms, brine shrimp, insect larvae, and frozen meaty foods. It also feeds near the surface—often upside down—making mealtime a delightful spectacle. Tank Mates: This fish is generally peaceful to semi-aggressive, depending on its size and surroundings. It is best housed with similarly sized or larger peaceful fish like gouramis, rainbowfish, larger barbs, loaches, or calm cichlids. Small fish or shrimp should be avoided, as they may be seen as food. Water Parameters: Temperature: 24–28°C pH: 6.5–7.5 Moderate hardness Minimum Tank Size: 4ft Ensure plenty of driftwood, hiding spots, and dim lighting. Behavior & Compatibility: This catfish is nocturnal but may show increased activity in dimly lit tanks. It is best kept in groups of three or more to encourage natural schooling behavior. It prefers low to moderate water flow, subdued lighting, and a soft substrate. Please Note: This fish can grow to 8–10 inches, so it requires plenty of swimming space. Once established, it is extremely hardy. It thrives in planted or natural setups that provide cover and structure.
