Half Day Woodland Survival Skills Experience near York

Could they light a fire, find safe drinking water and build a shelter when it really mattered? Set in beautiful woodland near York, this hands-on survival skills experience introduces three essentials of outdoor survival: fire, water and shelter. It is an engaging gift for outdoorsy people, curious beginners and anyone who would enjoy putting their resourcefulness to the test. During the 2.5-hour session, participants will discover several ways to start a fire, including using flint and steel and creating an ember nest. They will then learn how a water filter and fire can be used to purify water ready for drinking. Finally, the group will work with the materials found around them to construct an emergency shelter entirely from natural resources. Friendly instruction is provided throughout, but the emphasis is firmly on having a go. Participants will have plenty of opportunities to practise each technique, develop useful skills and gain confidence in a safe and supportive woodland setting. Sessions usually take place on Sunday mornings or afternoons, with other dates occasionally available. Bookings can be made for between one and eight people, with prices varying according to group size. Other individuals or groups may join the same session if the booking is for less than 8 people. The experience is suitable for adults and accompanying children aged 14 or over. Tea and coffee are provided. Sessions continue whatever the weather, so participants should wear suitable outdoor clothing and bring waterproofs when rain is forecast. Directions to the woodland are supplied after the experience date has been scheduled.
